A Letter from Provincetown

Having lived in Provincetown for nearly a decade, I have seen many thing that are unique to the place that seduced me into forgetting the bigger world beyond Cape Cod. It has provided me with a center to my mind, body and spirit, that continues stimulate and nurture me.Elsewhere there are four seasons in every year, here there is a fifth..
Late Summer in Provincetown is like a sultry woman – hot, passionate and fickle. She comes and goes as she pleases, with such an intensity,no one is ever quite sure how long she will stay. She is holding back the chilled hand of Winter a bit longer . A time for the last warm spells,an uncharted season filled with a flurry of activity set upon a crazy quilt of sumptuous late garden blooms.
We, who live in this place enjoy these halcyon days not felt in many other places. Those grown old, with youth torn from them by the jagged edge of Winter, know all too well that these days are to be relished. Memories of a beautiful Summer will become golden day dreams in the offices and workplaces if reality. When Winter moves in with its backbone of ice and accoutrements of leafless trees and hard frozen ground. The dreamers shall remain lost forever in these final rays of Summer’s warmth, basking in her beauty …frivolity and perhaps even love.
